Looming Fire Threat
Such is the diversity of the Wide Bay and Burnett region that health officials are warning about the risk of Ross River virus due to increased rain while the rural fire service is concerned about the high risk of fire in the western parts of the region.
The fire service is warning land owners in the west to remain on alert.
Fortunately here in Hervey Bay the showers that have been falling every few days have kept things nice and green and the danger of fire in this part of the region is not as great.

Regards to the fire threat,
Do not get to complacent about the rain it maybe greening things up but it also increasing fire fuel loads.
All wide Bay rural fire crews where called to 2 fires at howard on friday.

Thanks for adding your comment Ken – I guess it is easy to get complacent when you look out the window and all you see is your lawn getting longer.
But you’re right – more rain does lead to more fuel on the ground and we all need to remember that.
