Those Stinking Hervey Bay Bats
Ok, I know this is a contentious issue and I know that the flying foxes that infest the area near the mouth of Tooan Tooan Creek at Pialba but really folks something has to be done about them.
The stench that always permeates the air on the Esplanade, where it crosses the creek, is almost unbearable. Not only is it bad down there but you can often stand in the Woolworths car park in Pialba and get hit by the same disgusting odour. Yesterday it was quite noticeable as far down the Esplanade as the edge of the Scarness shopping centre.
Not only is the smell from the bats appalling but the pollution that they have brought to Tooan Tooan Creek is dreadful. If it was a factory or an agricultural industry that was doing the polluting people would be in hauled into court but because it’s a bunch of stinking bats that have turned it into a sewer somehow it is all acceptable and no one sees any problem with it.
And the problem is only going to get worse - much worse - so it’s time something was done to cull the bat population, divide the colony and encourage them to move on. If we don’t the bats are going to become a blight on this community.
So what about it Ted? Are you and the Hervey Bay Council going to do something positive and clean up the situation or are you just going to dither while it goes on getting worse?
