The Epitome of an Incompetent Politician

Now I know that the question of using recycled drinking water raises a lot of emotional debate but I never thought I would see the day when it showed just how incompetent and completely inept a politician could be. I mean most politicians can think on their feet and talk their way out of a difficult situation.

Sadly though Mr Springborg - the leader of the Queensland Nationals - is no vebal tap dancer.

On the news last night he was caught trying to tell the press that if we start drinking recycled water it will lead to more female fish. Really Mr Springborg do you believe that?

Is that what you expect us to believe too?

For your information Mr Springborg anyone who lives in a town that draws its drinking water from a major river and is downstream from another major town already drinks recycled water. Think about it Mr Springborg - are we seeing more females being born in towns like that?

Or is this strange feminisation phenomena that you have suddenly discovered only applicable to fish?

[…] Sadly the alternatives to Pete aren’t any better because they still think that recycled water feminises fish. […]

The problem with the recycled sewage plant proposed for Toowoomba is that it just would not work.

It is not possible to produce 11,000 ML of recycled water from 8,000 ML of sewage. Toowoomba City Council also had nowhere for the RO waste stream to go. Acland Coal did not want it. Singapore pumps its RO waste stream into the sea.

The plant could never have been built for $68 million - closer to $150-200 million would be more accurate when you take into account the hundreds of acres of evaporation ponds required which were not included in the budget.

Regardless of your view on recycled water use, the no vote in Toowoomba was correct because the proposal was a dud.

Thanks John for pointing out some of the technical problems that weren’t addressed during the campaign.

And my view is always only my view :)
