Aldi Hervey Bay
We think we’ll pass
We did the hunting and gathering thing at the new Aldi supermarket here in Hervey Bay yesterday and came away disappointed. Sure the prices appear to be cheaper than other supermarkets in town but the quality of some of the items there was less than we expected and the range was limited.
We really didn’t see anything there to make us change from Coles, Woolworths and a dedicated butcher’s shop.

There’s a “knack” for shopping at Aldi. Some products are duds, while others are great. You might find this tip sheet of interest.

Also, if you go to Aldi’s website, you’ll see the fortnightly specials. I bought the 81cm HD LCD televison last week for $899, and my neighbour got a 6 head VCR/DVD player combo for $150. They’ve got some computer specials next week including a UPS and an external HDD. Here’s a link to next weeks specials

Hope that helps.

Edit
After re-reading the Aldi ad for the laptop I see that what I said about a three month guarantee was incorrect. They are actually offering a two year guarantee and that is definitely worth checking out.
Hi Patricia
Thanks for those tips on shopping at Aldi - I’m sure they will be very helpful.
However, I would seriously suggest that people don’t rush in to buy that laptop. Try Harvey Norman first and you might be surprised to find that they are selling better laptops for the same or even less.
On top of that Aldi are selling the laptop with a three month guarantee. Perhaps people need to look at the ACCC website to see what they say about expensive items with short guarantees.Any reputable computer shop will give you a 12 month guarantee on all parts for a laptop so to think of the Aldi laptop as some kind of bargain is perhaps misguided.
