You certainly have a point Rocco- there are plenty of important issues that the paper should be covering becasue they are of interest to the community but perhaps it's easier to write about pigs.

I saw the cover story of today's Chronicle is about pet pigs. Interesting to some maybe, but not journalism.

The sad thing is that the local newspaper has come under adverse criticism here on the Gossip from people out in the community who have left comments.

On one occasion I emailed the editor and invited her to join in the discussion and put her side of the story. She never replied to the email and didn't post anything here so now I don't bother letting her know when someone is criticising the paper.

I think traditional media simply waited too long to embrace the Web, and now they have to scramble to find a fit. Remember when journalists were upset that blog authors were scooping them and tried to negate the impact of the bloggers by implying that all blogs could do was offer opinion?

Well now the papers that employed a lot of those journalists are busy incorporating blog news into their online editions. It remains to be seen how they will try to increase subscription rates but I look for more emphasis on smart phone integration. Just need those roll-up screens.
