Tropical Cyclone Outlook
It’s interesting that while some commercial forecasters and media outlets seem to work themselves into a frenzy over the tropical cyclone that is supposedly lurking off the Queensland coast the Burea of Meteorology continues to remain calm and professional.
One media outlet went so far as to name the cyclone earlier today but, according to the latest tropical cyclone outlook issued by the Bureau at 2.30pm this afternoon, there’s no cyclone there yet.
In the exact words of the Bureau:
An active monsoon trough over northern Australia extends across Cape York Peninsula and into the Coral Sea to a complex low centred near 16.7S 151.1E. At the present time, the low is sheared and separate from any significant cloud clusters but it may become more organised and deepen during the weekend. It is likely to remain slow moving during this time.
The potential for this low to develop into a tropical cyclone is MODERATE for Saturday, HIGH on Sunday and Monday
