Wildlife in the Backyard in Hervey Bay
For people outside Hervey Bay it might be a little hard to understand that, although this is quite a developed urban area, there’s a lot of interesting wildlife to see in our backyards here.
Last September I wrote about almost stepping on a snake in our back yard - it was a heart starter I didn’t need - and today this beautiful specimen was sitting on the clothes line next door:

It’s certainly one of the biggest kookaburras we’ve seen for a while.
And then there are the bats - thousands and thousands of them and this is what the sky often looks like at sunset here in Hervey Bay

There’s no doubt Hervey Bay is a great place to live if you like wildlife (but maybe I’ll pass on the snakes)

Just a short note to tell you how much I enjoy your newsy and informative articles on one of my favourite places in the whole world.
I live in Ontario, Canada but have had the privilege to stay in Hervey Bay on a number of occasions for an extended visit. Luckily I have good friends to stay with and through these visits have become quite attached to the area.
Thanks for keeping me up on all the goings on in the beautiful bay. I especially love the pictures!

Hi Gwen
Thankyou for the kind words. We’ve met a few Canadians now who have made Hervey Bay their home. There just seems to be something about this place that keeps attracting people from all over the world :)
