Hearty Foods in Hervey Bay

Friday, October 31st, 2008

The Independant had an interesting write up on one of the business success stories of Hervey Bay. It coincided with the launch of the first stage of their new website so if you’re looking for a pre-made healthy gourmet dinner then follow the link to their website and look at their menu - the prices are very reasonable.

Personally I’ve got to tell you that their meals are great - they might be a client of our web design business but even if they weren’t I would still be telling you how good their meals are.

Whales Off Shelly Beach

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

While it doesn’t happen often it’s not uncommon to see whales off Point Vernon but last weekend at least one whale came even further into Hervey Bay.

Larry Burch from Aquavue Cafe Watersports reported seeing a large whale in the channel off Shelly Beach on Saturday and some of the whale watching tour operators are reporting that the whales have come much further into the bay than in past years.

It’s expected that the whale watching season will continue into November.

Some Rain Forecast for Today

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

The Weather Bureau has forecast some clearing showers for Hervey Bay today and the morning has certainly started off with that feeling of impending rain.

This was the view out over Point Vernon at dusk on Sunday night as a storm moved across the horizon.

It was taken in poor light with the camera in an iPhone and no attempt has been made to enhance the lighting in Photoshop.

Sleeping on the Beach

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

As all locals know, the climate here in Hervey Bay is so pleasant that you can spend quite a comfortable night sleeping on the beach and some backpackers do it from time to time.

Unfortunately it’s something that should be discouraged for no other reason than it’s not safe. But two backpackers made it through the night on Friday night and were only just waking up at 7am yesterday morning.

Hervey Bay Council …

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

… what on earth were you thinking of?

Of course the Hervey Bay City Council is no more but back in the days when there was such a body their thinking may have been a little different to most people as this photo will suggest.

Sadly I doubt that things have changed now that the Hervey Bay City Council has morphed into the Fraser Coast Regional Council.

Things to do in Hervey Bay - the Botanical Gardens

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

The Botanical Gardens in Hervey Bay are located Elizabeth Street Urangan just three blocks from the Esplanade. It’s an easy walk to reach the gardens and stepping into the gardens is to step into a world of peace and tranquility.

Hervey Bay Real Estate - Dead or Not?

Friday, October 24th, 2008

While the real estate industry throughout Queensland seems to be pushing the line that things are picking up here in Hervey Bay the word on the street is that the real estate industry is in trouble.

Sales have stopped … new construction has slowed considerably … and there’s even a rumour that another Real Estate Agent will close up shop in the next few days.

However things aren’t all gloom and doom and when you pass Hungry Jack’s you will see a “Sold” sign being displayed. The land has been up for sale for some time and a deal seems to have been closed earlier this week.

The Fraser Coast South Burnett Regional Tourism Board

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

It’s a big mouthful and behind the title is supposed to be the body that promotes Hervey Bay, the Fraser Coast and the South Burnett but does it really do such a good job?

Sadly there are some small tourism operators here in Hervey Bay who think that the Board’s efforts are sadly lacking and perhaps they have very good reasons for their lack of confidence in the Board.

You can read more about it here.

Whale Watching in Hervey Bay

Monday, October 20th, 2008

The whale watching season is still happening here in Hervey Bay so if you’re thinking of coming up to see the whales there’s still some time.

Here’s one group arriving back at the Marina yesterday after spending the afternoon out with the whales.

Hervey Bay’s Beachfront Cafes

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Life is never dull at the two beach front cafes in Hervey Bay. Enzo’s on the beach and Aquavue may seem quiet and peaceful and they certainly have some great views out over the bay but sometimes the unexpected can happen.

Yesterday we went down to Aquavue for a quiet cup of coffee. Like many people we drove down and others that were there walked up from the beach. But one young lady decided that she would like enter the cafe from 14,000ft.

Although the landing right in front of the cafe was perfect the arrival was dramatic and, for some of the cafe patrons, totally unexpected. The first indication that some of them had that something out of the ordinary was about to happen was the whoop of excitement as the young lady and her sky diving instructor swooped in over the cafe before making the left-hand turn for the final approach to the beach.

If you’d like to enjoy the thrill of sky diving over Hervey Bay then talk to Larry and the crew at Aquavue.
