Vote and Help Hervey Bay Tourism

Tiger Airways has recently announced they are establishing a new base at Avalon Airport and have an online poll running for people to nominate where they’d like to fly to from there.

Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast are on the list of location choices and the Fraser Coast Regional Council would like to encourage everyone possible to register your interest in direct flights and help our chances of success.

Please log onto www.tigerairways.com, where you’ll find a panel on the right hand side that encourages you to “VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE DESTINATION DEPARTING FROM AVALON”

Please vote as soon as you can.

While I welcome the idea of direct flights to Melbourne, there is a big difference between registering an interest and actually flying.

I’d hate to see the company start a Melbourne – Hervey Bay service and then pull out as Jetstar did for lack of customers.

I have just read “expect to see additional aircraft seats coming into place in the wake of the May 10 launch of Virgin Blue’s upgrading from Embraer aircraft to 737′s”.

All this will in fact do, is take us back to where we were, sorry, not quite, we still won’t have Jetstar’s seats.

John I’m perhaps even more sceptical than you. I think that Tiger already knows where they’re going to fly and the idea of getting people to vote for their favorite destinations is just some PR fluff.

I think that much the same thing applies to Fraser Coast Regional Council’s attempts to get people to vote … it makes people feel warm and fuzzy about doing something for this area but it’s not really going to have an impact on where Tiger flies to.

As someone who is moving to Hervey Bay to live soon, I would like to know what the situation is regarding flights so can a resident advise the current situation on flights ex Hervey Bay to Sydney and Brisbane

    Cheers

    G’day Allan

On weekdays QantasLink put on four or five services to and from Brisbane and a few less on weekends.

Virgin provide one flight a day direct to Sydney but it arrives just before lunch and a few hours later it’s back in Sydney.

Flying QantasLink to Brisbane and transferring to a Brisbane/Sydney flight it is possible to get down to Sydney for business and get back to Brisbane in time to catch the last flight to Hervey Bay on the same day. It’s something I hope to achieve next month.

I think a direct route to Melbourne could be a good idea. I have lots of friends based there, but they don’t come up just for the fact it is too costly for them to get here with 2 flights.

Another service to another city would be far more popular and sustainable that 2 flights to and from the same city.

Every time I fly Virgin the flights are close to full these days and i have rarely been on an empty flight which is great, but we certainly need another service to boost the region and increase the tourist dollar coming in here

I have rarely being on a Jetstar flight that wasn’t filled to capacity…I think it was more of a time issue as Melbourne people couldn’t use Jetstar as the service didn’t have a connecting flight on the same day, I was lucky to have accomodation in Sydney the night before…..go Tiger it will be great competition for virgin again and awesome to visit relatives more often!

we have just discovered Hervey Bay and spent a 1 month holiday there. even though bthe floods were around us the locals were great. bringing a direct flightb would be great, the cost would be better and people would get to see the australian hospitality that we enjoyed. this would be a step forward for the bay and for yet again proving that australia is the place to be
