I’m sure that everybody thought that endearing term had disappeared along with the old currency but it’s about to reappear in a form that most Australians from the days of pounds, shillings and pence never thought possible.

In the future inter-planetary travellers will take a new currency with them – the Quasi Universal Intergalactic Denomination … or Quid.

At least that’s the way it seems to be in the United States where the price of popcorn has risen by 40% since last year.

And the reason for this sudden rise in the price of popcorn? More and more corn is going into the production of ethanol and so the popcorn producers now have to pay more for the basic ingredient of their product.

The thought of big freshwater fish leaping into your boat might sound like heaven to any fishermen but the reality is something different and quite dangerous along these rivers in the United States.

At least one manufacturer has already come up with a solution for the problem of dirty keyboards. They’ve produced and keyboard and mouse that can be cleaned in the dishwasher. You can find them at Seal Shield.

While I doubt that you’ll find any in stock in any computer shop in Hervey Bay if you follow the link you will find one shop here in town that does stock a lot of hard-to-get computer parts and guarantees all their computer repairs.

You would have thought that Google might have added a little enjoyment for the occupants of one small Chilean village when Google moved the earth to the point where the village was shifted  across the border into Argentina.

If we have such a vibrant barramundi industry then why is the barramundi that you can buy in fish shops here in Hervey Bay all produced in Asia?

Even our favourite fish shop down at Shelly Beach sells imported barramundi.

Earlier this week A Current Affair ran a piece on people who were drowning in credit card debt. It was obviously quite timely  because, once again, Australians have gone out on a spending spree over Christmas and used their plastic to finance the fun.

The piece that A Current Affair ran was quite interesting and offered hope to those who are hopelessly trapped in credit card debt. The hope was in a programme called The Money Tree and you can find the details by following the link.

The Money Tree programme consists of a book and some software on a disk and costs $59.95 including postage.

Now the programme certainly may work – my issue isn’t with whether it works or not – my issue is with something quite different.

The first step in the programme recommends that people cut up their credit cards and that is definitely something that people should be doing. But the only way to buy the book and software is with ….

you guessed it …

a credit card.

Some things just make you go “Hmmmm”

Acting Premier Anna Bligh is outraged that the Wally Lewis statue at Suncorp Stadium has been painted blue.

The Acting Premier was at the Stadium at 7am to inspect the cowardly act.

“All this stupidity will do is motivate Mal’s team even more in tonight’s clash,” she said.

“To defile the King would once have had the perpetrator in the stocks, but for Wally and all proud Queenslanders we know that this cheap stunt won’t dent our pride.

“It’s such a typical Blues act. It’s just like their whinging about GST funding. It’s hollow and pointless.

“Come game time tonight every Maroon supporter will be cheering as Darren’s team do their best to defend the King’s honour,” she quipped.

“On a serious note this is vandalism and unacceptable. If anyone has any evidence to solving this crime they should forward it to Police.”

As Ms Bligh pointed out – it was an act of vandalism.

The Courier Mail is reporting that someone committed a dastardly act upon the statue of the Queensland Rugby League legend Wally Lewis and painted his jersey blue around 4.30am this morning.

That dreadful act of desecration was quickly discovered and the statue of Wally was soon returned to the correct colours.

Dare I say it … GO THE BLUES!!
