Hervey Bay Birds

Monday, October 31st, 2005

We often forget just what a wonderful place Hervey Bay is to live. The climate is wonderful and we’re surrounded by some of the most colourful and amazing birds. And you don’t have to go any further than your own backyard to see and hear the birds.

That was brought home to me during the past week when I was chatting with one of our clients in the United States. I was telling him about some of the wildlife that we get to see right here in Hervey Bay and he was amazed.

At the time I couldn’t find this photo that I grabbed down on The Esplanade, just across from the Bayaroma Cafe in the middle of the day.

At the time I was chatting to him I couldn’t find this photo in my collection but now I have it so Jim, and anyone else from other parts of the world who happen to wander by, here is a sample of the birds you can see right in the centre of Hervey Bay.

These two were part of a bigger group that were wandering around the gardens just near the Torquay Sailing Club and that’s an area that is always quite busy through the day.

Water Restrictions Continue

Wednesday, October 12th, 2005

Residents who live within the area governed by Hervey Bay City Council are reminded that Levl 2 water restrictions are in force and all sprinklers and soaker hoses are banned between 5.30am and 8.00pm. Hosing of driveways and paved areas are banned at all times.

Even though there is rain forecast for the south east corner of the state these restrictions are unlikely to go away any time soon so we just have to begin to realise that water is a very valuable commodity and cannot be wasted.

Even though restrictions are in force it’s not impossible to maintain a colourful garden as this recent winner in the Hervey Bay Garden Competition shows.

Hervey Bay Botanical Gardens

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

Well that’s not really their name but a title like that is good for the search engines :)

The real name for the gardens is the Great Sandy Region Botanical Garden - Hervey Bay. If you haven’t been there yet you really should take the time to spend an hour or two wandering along the pathways and enjoying the peace and beauty of the place.

You’ll find the gardens in Elizabeth Street Urangan and we can recommend the place. It really can be described as tranquil at just about any time of the day but we love it first thing in the morning.

There are well set out pathways to take you through the gardens and there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the plant life and the bird life too.
