Boat Harbour Drive Closure

The closure of Boat Harbour Drive, between Bideford Street and Elizabeth Street, for upgrading works is going to have a major impact on traffic flows around Hervey Bay. A number of bus routes will be changed as reported here.

From Thursday major traffic detours will be in place too that will direct traffic further inland along Garden Drive Urangan. Temporary traffic lights have already been erected at the intersection of Garden Drive and Elizabeth Street

to ease the congestion that will no doubt develop during peak hours.

The residents of Garden Drive are going to be seeing a lot of traffic in their normally quiet street over the coming months.

And if you’re coming along Boat Harbour Drive from the Pialba end and you’re thinking of taking your own detour down Bideford Street towards The Esplanade you need to be aware that Hervey Bay City Council has begun it’s own roadworks right in the middel of the shopping precinct in Bideford Street.

Yesterday a very large pile of sand was blocking much of the road as well as easy access to the only ATMs at that end of Hervey Bay.

More Traffic Lights in Hervey Bay

Construction work to install more traffic lights is underway at two intersections in Hervey Bay.

Poles are up at the intersection of Bideford Street and Torquay Tce and at the intersection of Ann Street and Torquay Tce.

I guess those new sets of traffic lights are just one more indication that this town is definitely growing.

Pialba – The Plans Are Breathtaking

Last week Hervey Bay City Council signed off on a $50 million dollar plan to breathe life back into Pialba and details of the plan have now come to hand.

The plan includes:

Turning Main Street into a four lane road between McLiver Street and Urraween Road

Constructing feeder roads across the cattle paddocks between Main and Nissen Streets

    Extending Urraween Road east

Extending Torquay Terrace beyond the intersection with Main Street and across the old railway line to Charles Street

Extending Old Maryborough Road towards the east behind Woolworths

Construction of a Civic Centre and Council Chambers on Old Maryborough Road

    Construction of student accommodation

Extending the Link Mobility Corridor parallel with Main Street to Urraween Road and with branches into Kawungan

Encouraging the construction of high-rise buildings up to eight storeys high along Main Street south of Boat Harbour Drive

Developing the foreshore at Pialba into an area that would be attractive for visitors

When the work is finished Pialba will once more be the heart of the city.

Link Corridor Extensions

Hervey Bay City Council has announced that the Link Corridor will soon be extended across Boat Harbour Drive. Work is almost completed on the extension from Old Maryborough Road to Boat Harbour Drive.

In February work will commence on the installation of traffic lights to protect the crossing of Boat Harbour Drive. The lights are specially designed to stop traffic on only one side of Boat Harbour Drive at a time. Council estimates that it will take around five weeks to install the lights and a protected traffic island in the middle of Boat Harbour Drive.

Roadworks – The Missing Link

Could it be true? Has the Hervey Bay Council started work on the missing link between Centro Hervey Bay and McIver Street?

Well it seems that could be the case, there are definitely some earth works underway on the Centro side of the intersection and we can but hope. Once optimistic passer-by suggested that the work might be finished by Christmas but, as your scribe pointed out, there was no indication of which Christmas the comment was referring to.
