On The Beach

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

On a winter’s day when the weather forecast for Hervey Bay is “mostly cloudy” the beach was definitely the place to be.

There were plenty of people walking on the beach on what was really a warm and pleasant morning to be out and about.

Hervey Bay Sunset

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

I was digging through some images to use on a tourism related website that we’re building for one of our Hervey Bay web design clients and came across this one that I took in March last year and I don’t think I’ve shared here before.

Hervey Bay sunset

It was taken on the barge coming back from Fraser Island. We certainly do have some stunning sunsets here in Hervey Bay.

Why Would You Do It?

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

The heavy rain we had here in Hervey Bay last week brought the inevitable flooding to areas of Wondunna. If you saw the television footage of the flooding and saw the interviews with residents who had floodwater running through their yards and houses you know that it was hard not to feel their pain.

One Hervey Bay resident has been brave enough to openly ask an obvious question about the flooding that I’m sure many local residents have ask themselves. You can read her thoughts over on Bring Back Strewth!

Plenty of Whales Heading North

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries is suggesting that this year could be a great on for whales.

The Department is expecting around 9,500 whales to head up the Queensland coast this year so that means that plenty of them will find there way into Hervey Bay for a rest before they return south.

So if you’re coming to Hervey Bay to see the whales then there’s a very good chance that you’ll see plenty of action and the whale boats in Hervey Bay will get you up close and personal to it all.

Rain, Roads and Bats

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

The rain in Hervey Bay seems to have abated … at least for few days … and it’s left Lenthalls Dam full to overflowing. That’s something that’s very positive for Hervey Bay.

Potholes make driving difficult
On the down side though the rain has left the roads around Hervey Bay in a real mess with potholes forming all over town. While some might think of the potholes as just a nuisance there have been a number of reports of cars being damaged after hitting some of the deeper ones around town.

As late as last night there were still quite a few nasty holes in some of the busier streets around town despite the Mayor telling the ABC yesterday that the majority of dangerous holes had been repaired.

The bats in Hervey Bay - have they gone?
Is it just my imagination or have the bats really departed the scene down where Tooan Tooan Creek crosses The Esplanade?

They certainly don’t seem to be hanging in the trees in the numbers that we’[re used to seeing down there so perhaps we can hope that they’ve gone for good.

The State Government Comes to Hervey Bay

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

The Premier announced today that the next Community Cabinet will be held in Hervey Bay on Sunday June 29 and Monday June 30.

The Sunday Community Forum will be held at Wide Bay TAFE, Urraween Road, Hervey Bay from 1pm and on Monday the Cabinet will meet in Hervey Bay from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

So another circus comes to town? (Sorry, I just couldn’t resist that.)

Another Wet and Windy Day in Paradise

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

Here in Hervey Bay we’ve woken up to another wet and windy day and while the flood water has gone down some places along the Esplanade are taking no chances.

These have been in place since Friday

Strange Sky

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Right now here in Hervey Bay the sky is full of cloud, there’s rain about and the forecast is for some wild weather for the next 24 hours.

Last Monday as the sun went down the sky was a whole lot different.
