Cellular Memories.

by Russell Egan

To most people, memories are stored in the mind, but there is increasing evidence that this is not completely true. Some people are beginning to think that experiences are stored in every cell in the body and sharing these cells, via a transplant, can also share memories.

This process has been given the label of cellular memories, referring to the possibility that memories might be stored in individual cells. This theory goes against everything that science has been teaching us for centuries. But could it be true?

People have claimed that significant personality changes have occurred after everything from a kidney transplant to open heart surgery.

Queensland’s first heart and lung transplant recipient reported that after the surgery he suddenly began to cry in Elvis movies. This had never happened before. After much investigation he discovered that the person whose organs he took was an avid Elvis fan. You will find the full story here

This seems absurd, but there are dozens of cases where distinct personality traits are being transferred from person to person through organ transplants.

Some people believe that there is an unknown ‘energy’ within all human cells. Interestingly, there has been little claim that this energy is related to the religious belief of a soul. A site that goes indepth into the scientific theories is Nexus and their article; Organ Transplants and Cellular Memories details a number of cases.

Observers of such changes in attitudes, habits, and even tastes are astounded, but many are still skeptical. In response to a question at Transweb.org Jeff Punch, a transplant surgeon, says that side effects of the drugs used in surgey could hold the answer.

But even if such traits were transferred, why are only a minority of people affected. There is no pattern, just random people who seem to change.

The fact that not all transplant recipients gain cellular memories creates a very unusual position, where facts can be twisted to fit both cases. Until a pattern has been discovered, then rumour and controversy will surround this entire phenomena.

Another possibility that could be significant is that many people who have had near death experiences become more open to other ideas. This could prove the key to personality change.

Ancient Chinese medicines have always considered different organs to be related to emotions, eg. the liver is related to anger and the stomach to worry. These connections could also be involved in this kind of personality change. For more detailed connections between organs and emotions, have a look at Dr Shen’s - a site that deals with Oriental medicine - and what they have to say about the relationship of the organs.

But no matter how many different opinions there are about cellular memories, it can never be proven until definitive scientific tests have been carried out. Until that time comes, we will all have to wait, and wonder.
