Hervey Bay GossipGlobal Warming and Hervey Bay |
Climate change is something that we are beginning to notice here in Australia and it is especially noticeable right now as south-east Queensland is in the grip of a terrible drough. However the changes in weather patters is not the only thing that will impact on Hervey Bay. We also face the challenge of rising sea levels. What those challenges may mean for Hervey Bay can best be assessed by looking at the expected rises in sea level compared with the land forms along the coastline. Here are three maps that show how the sea will encroach on the land along the coastline of Hervey Bay. |
![]() The Effects of a 1 Metre Rise in Sea Level This image, courtesy of Google Maps, shows how the sea will encroach on the land if sea levels rise by just 1 metre. You will notice some blue areas appearing between Eli Waters/Point Vernon and Dundowran. Although it's a little hard to tell from this reduced image there is also some encroachment around the Urangan Boat Harbour area |
![]() The Effects of a 3 Metre Rise in Sea Level This image, courtesy of Google Maps, shows how the sea will encroach on the land if sea levels rise by 3 metres. You will notice that the flooding between Eli Waters/Point Vernon and Dundowran becomes much more extensive. |
![]() The Effects of a 7 Metre Rise in Sea Level This image, courtesy of Google Maps, shows how the sea will encroach on the land if sea levels rise by 7 metres. You will notice that the flooding between Eli Waters/Point Vernon and Dundowran covers a considerable amount of land and we are now seeing a loss of land along The Esplanade and inland around Urangan. The area around Urangan Boat Harbour is also affected. |
